ReplyDeleteIf I'm having a crummy day, it's the cheese plate with the steak au poivre and a duvel at Robis des Bois. Also a huge fan of the pork shank as part of the prix fixe at Sue Perette. Those two come to mind first, so I guess they win!
ReplyDeleteIt's not technically a "restaurant", but its a Brooklyn eat. I can't get the chocolate shake out of my mind from Jacques Torres Chocolates. But if I had to choose a restaurant, I was incredibly amazed at Peter Luger. I look forward to seeing the other comments.

ReplyDeleteThis cookbook has such good recipes! I'd love to have a copy. Picking just one god Brooklyn spot is hard! Too many to pick from. Lately I've really been enjoying Acqua Santa. Their beet gnocchi is ridiculous!

ReplyDeletea bistro is the absolute best restaurant in brooklyn hands down. im hesitant to say it on a public forum and bring even more hipster crowds to this gem. but i said it. and its the truth.
ReplyDeletewith lucali, umi nom, caffe e' vino, the smoke joint, aqualis grill, al di la and kaz an nou all within the borough it's a real toughie, but that just makes a bistro THAT good.

ReplyDeleteIt's a deli and a full-service resturant...Jay & Lloyd's on Avenue U for the hot pastrami sandwich on rye with russian dressing. It doesn't get any more brooklyn than that and being able to sit down and enjoy my meal with the occasional conversation with Lloyd is always a pleasure. Even their pickles are from The Pickle Guys. I love it.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite restaurant anywhere was Brooklyn Star, the southern gem in Williamsburg that sustained fire damage back in February. I hope it will reopen every single day! Until that day, my allegiance will be with Motorino and their picante sopresseta pizza!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite restaurant changes with the seasons. Right now it is Applewood, just had a great meal there. Reservation coming up for Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare, so that could change quickly!

ReplyDeleteThis is so exciting - I actually got access to a recipe from the book last night and made Vinegar Hill's cast-iron chicken! It was delicious and I can't wait to try more recipes from teh book :) I think among my favorites are surely Frankie's in Caroll Gardens and Anella in Greenpoint - however, I consistently find myself going back to Sweetwater for their daily mussels special (the spicy bacon is to die for) and Fiore, also for their mussels and I crave their chicken parm constantly!

I can't pick just one: it's between A di la and James for me, because they're both close enough for me to visit them year round as their menus change. Shortlist: Roberta's, Franny's, Dressler, and that great Cuban place on Smith Street.

ReplyDeleteThe food is always amazing, they always have fantastic specials every time I go so theres always new things to try. The staff are always so friendly and chef Romy always comes out to greet you.

Fragole in Carroll Gardens! Holy freaking yum. Never had a less-than-amazing meal there.
ReplyDeleteIt's a toss-up between Mile End in Boerum Hill and Northeast Kingdom in Bushwick. Can't get more different, and can't get more delicious.
ReplyDeleteMy current favorite is Lot 2, which has the distinct advantage of being in my neighborhood. I wish one of the recipes in this book was their strata, because it is mind-blowing. Of the featured restaurants in this cookbook, I would say Palo Santo is my overall favorite. But there is really too much good food in Brooklyn to narrow it down.
ReplyDeleteFrankies 457, hands down!! It was one of the first restaurants I went to when I moved to Brooklyn years ago and it's still amazing. There's a reason the wait for a table is two hours! The food is unfailingly fresh, consistent and incredibly affordable; the restaurant is beautiful and perfectly bustle-y but never overwhelming. Two people can easily split the cavatelli with sage, sausage and brown butter and a carafe of the house red for a fraction of what you'd pay at other places.
